The nearest rail station to SPring-8/CAST is JR Aioi station, where the Japanese Super-Express Train, Shinkansen, stops regularly. Please refer to the following web sites to find out your appropriate way to access to JR Aioi station:
From JR Aioi station, public buses are available to bring you directly to SPring-8/CAST. It takes approximately 40 and 30 minutes from the station to SPring-8 and CAST (the bus stop is "Kenritsudai Rigakubu"), respectively. The bus fare is 710 yen to SPring-8, and 660 yen to CAST from JR Aioi station.
You can also find highway buses from JR Himeji station directly to SPring-8, although they don't stop by CAST.

SPring-8 is located about 40km away from Himeji. Himeji Castle is located at the place 1km away from JR Himeji Station. Himeji Castle is registered into the World Cultural Heritage. However, repair work is performed now.
